We don’t.
Tapestry is a 501(c)(3) public charity.
We do not generate income from donated items and all donations are used to provide assistance.
All items are donated by the community and given free of charge to families.
All of our volunteers donate their time and efforts.
Our goal is to make sure nothing goes unused.
We chose the name Tapestry because it reflects what happens when a community comes together. Every act of generosity—every item donated, every volunteer hour, every family supported—becomes a thread. On its own, a single thread is small. But woven together with hundreds of others, it creates something strong, beautiful, and full of purpose.
Tapestry is built on the belief that every child deserves to belong, and that belonging is created through connection. When neighbors help neighbors, when schools, families, and volunteers link arms, we create a supportive network that holds our kids up. That network is our tapestry.
We’re inspired by the words of Rainer Maria Rilke:
“Destiny itself is like a wonderful wide tapestry in which every thread is guided by unspeakable tender hands, placed beside another thread and held and carried by a hundred others.”
That quote captures our mission perfectly. No child’s story should unfold alone—every young person deserves to be surrounded by threads of care, dignity, and hope.
At Tapestry, we weave those threads together by providing cost‑free clothing, shoes, sports gear, and essentials to children and teens in Rockford, Sparta, Cedar Springs, Greenville, and surrounding Northern Kent County communities. Completely volunteer‑run, we exist to bring hope, confidence, and opportunity to kids who deserve to feel included—at school, on the field, and in life.
Together, we’re creating something truly beautiful.
Together, we are Tapestry.
